One of Luke Bryan&#8217;s main loves is fishing, and he&#8217;ll continue the activity even if it hurts him.
In a new interview with Audacy&#8217;s Totally Private program, the country star revealed he&#8217;s allergic to bass and opened up about the symptoms, which could lead some people to think he was smoking marijuana.
&#8220;Just so we know, if I do interviews and I look like I’ve been smoking pot, that’s not true. I’ve been catching bass,&#8221; said Bryan, 47, explaining that he&#8217;d done so the day of the interview.
&#8220;If I touch a bass, my eyes will get red, my hands will swell if I have to take the hook out,&#8221; added the &#8220;Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day&#8221; singer. &#8220;I’ll get in front of it. I’m like, &#8216;I know I’m going to fish today,&#8217; so I’ll take an Allegra in the morning.&#8221;
An avid fisher since childhood, Bryan &#8220;spent years not knowing&#8221; about his allergy. &#8220;My dad would take me on these fishing trips, and I would be in the back of the boat like wheezing, maybe in need of an EpiPen,&#8221; he recalled.
&#8220;My Dad was just like, [&#8216;Suck it up,&#8217;] we just thought it was allergies [to] like, the trees, but it’s actually touching the bass,&#8221; he explained of the realization.

Since then, Bryan has learned he&#8217;s &#8220;not all alone&#8221; in the struggle. &#8220;So, maybe I can bring awareness,&#8221; he said with a laugh, joking that he&#8217;ll launch a &#8220;new foundation&#8221; to benefit &#8220;those who&#8217;ve been cursed by the touch&#8221; of bass.
&#8220;It&#8217;s really sunfish, like a brim, a shell cracker,&#8221; elaborated Bryan, naming different types of fish that give him an allergic reaction. &#8220;Any of those things, they wipe me out pretty good.&#8221;
The &#8220;One Margarita&#8221; singer is currently gearing up to hit the road on his Mind of a Country Boy Tour, which launches April 17 and continues through September.

&#8220;My thing [now] is to just have fun writing songs, have fun doing the shows. I think for 10 years I’ve just overworked myself to where all my friends, when I see them, they’re like, ‘You’re overworking yourself,’ and I’m like, ‘I know, I can’t tell people no,’&#8221; he said. &#8220;I’ve been home four weekends in a row, and I have not done that in 17 or 18 years.&#8221;
